What is a Lutheran? We are a Christian denomination that believes that all people are saved by the free gift of God's grace. It is our faith in Christ's mercy that truly allows us to see the divine mysteries of life. This free gift of grace expresses God's unconditional love and frees us to respond to God's love in gratitude and joy.
We believe in the Holy Trinity (The Father, The Son, and the Holy Spirit). We believe that Jesus Christ is the Word of God made human, and we come to this knowledge by God alone through the Holy Scriptures. Ultimately, we believe that we are called to love all of God's Creation, and by doing so we proclaim our love of God.
Founded in 1975, we have grown to a diverse membership of 125 faithful. We are God’s children, and this is God’s congregation. We are here to proclaim the Good News and to follow our mission statement:
Come and See. Learn and Rejoice. Go and Tell.
Our congregation is blessed with enthusiastic believers who are eager to serve. That enthusiasm is personified in warm and welcoming members who are known for their friendliness as well as their volunteerism.
Our top three assets include …
Our members who are eager to do the Lord’s work
Our fellowship which pulls those dedicated members together to confront whatever opportunities and challenges our congregation faces.
Our determination to stay the course and continue to bring fresh ideas and resources to whatever challenges we undertake.
In addition to our weekly worship services, Sunday School, and bible studies, our local programs serve our members with numerous fellowship and social activities including …
Family game nights
Monthly pot luck luncheons
Believers’ food and fellowship eat-outs
Progressive Dinners
Soup suppers during Advent and Lent
Annual Ladies’ Tea
Church work days
Summer youth church camps
And our members serve our congregation by volunteering as parish lay ministers, members of the Congregational Council, the choir, the altar guild, and the Shepherds Group. They donate their talent as greeters, worship assistant volunteers, cantors, lectors, ushers, visual creators, communion assistants, acolytes, crucifers, and coffee servers.
They serve on the many committees that support our operations including youth and education, evangelism, parish life, property, service, finance, stewardship, technology, and worship and music.
We are affiliated with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America and its subset, the Northern Texas - Northern Louisiana Synod .
The Reverend Jeffery Paul Bergeron has been our pastor since February, 2016. He is a native Texan, born in Houston and grew up in Georgetown. He graduated from Georgetown High School in 2004, Texas Lutheran University in Seguin in 2008, and Wartburg Theological Seminary in Dubuque, Iowa in 2012. Prior to joining us, he was pastor of Martin Luther Evangelical Lutheran Church in Victoria, Texas. Pastor Jeff is a musician who loves the church’s rich musical heritage and its deep scriptural foundations. He plays several musical instruments, and his favorite is the guitar. His passions are preaching and teaching
He married his wife, Ashley Keller Bergeron in 2012. They have a daughter who is the blessing of a lifetime. Their family enjoys going to baseball games, cooking, and all things Disney.
Our symbol, or logo as it is sometimes called, captures many features which contribute to our calling to offer everyone New Life In Christ. At the heart of our symbol are the Greek letters Chi (X) and Rho (P) the ancient abbreviation for Christ the King, because Christ is the heart of our mission and our message.
The letters are centered on the image of a butterfly to symbolize the beautiful creature with a New Life that emerges from the ugly entrapment of a dark cocoon … representing the confinement of trying to live a life without the saving grace of Christ’s life and resurrection.
On the wings of the butterfly are the letters NLIC for New Life In Christ, and ELCA for Evangelical Lutheran Church In America. Surrounding the image are the words of our mission statement; Come and See. Learn and Rejoice. Go and Tell, which is explained in more detail under the Our Mission tab.
In 2023 we updated our logo to reflect our current needs and represent the congregation more fully. The butterfly remains a key component to our identity. The cross has taken the place of the chi rho as a more widely understood symbol of Christ. The mosaic colors of the wings are a nod to our national church ties to the ELCA, and representative of our commitment to diversity.
